Greetings and peace to you from our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Fall is here and you can already see the leaves starting to change color on the trees. Fall is one of my favorite times of year. Growing up in Michigan, fall is the time for cider mills, fried donuts, harvest dinners and bonfires. It is a cozy time of year. It has with it the feeling of warmth and home.

When we think of fall in the church, we think of it being the time when everything is getting started again. This fall we are wanting to hear from all of you as to what you would like to see happening here at St. John’s. If you have ideas I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Please let me know about anything you find that would be something to draw us all together.

Starting in October we will have special youth activities for kids in 6th and 7th grade. We will have our first meeting on October 14th at 5 pm. We will have pizza, pop and chips and discuss the year together. We are planning to have lots of fun, including creating a webpage for our group! So come out and join us for all the fun and bring your ideas and friends.

Confirmation will be meeting on Thursdays this year at 6:30 for all 7th grade youth. If you did not come to our intro meeting, you can still come and join us. If interested please give me a call.

We have also our once a month lunch bunch that is meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month. This is for people of all ages. I would like to start having some guest speakers for these events and special outings. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

I feel we are off to a good start this fall. God has given us all that we need to be witnesses to Christ in our community. We just need to use what is in front us to accomplish those goals. So often we look at our resources and feel if we had better ones we could do more. But Jesus teaches us that we have everything we need to achieve our goals. We just have to be resourceful. I am sure that there are many in our congregation that remember what it was like to live through the depression. You had to make the most of what food and money you had. It was not easy but you look at the resources you had and made wonders out of them. That is what Christ is asking us to do. Take the resources around us and spread the gospel. We can bring people into our church. We can reach out to others. We just need to use the resources that we had been given to accomplish those goals.

I would like us to all look around and see what we can do to reach others for Christ. Please put any suggestions in my box or see a council member about what we can do to reach other people in our community.

Blessings, Pastor Shannon
